PBM-070X Portable Monitor Helps Troubleshoot Video Signals in the Field

Phoenix, AZ, May 28, 2009 - Plura Broadcast, a leading manufacturer of high-end professional LCD monitors for studio and field use, announced today that Trio Video, a mobile television production company based in Chicago, is using the PBM-070X seven-inch portable LCD monitor during remote productions.

Trio Video mobile production units are used to produce sports and entertainment programming  for Comcast SportsNet Chicago, WGN, FOX Sports, the Big Ten Network and many other regional and national clients. Its fleet of three HD trucks, plus its analog truck and B unit, have been used for coverage of the Chicago Bulls (NBA), Chicago White Sox and Cubs (MLB), and Chicago Blackhawks (NHL), among others.

According to Carl Roszczybiuk, Trio Video director of engineering, live productions continue to expand past the traditional boundaries of the production truck. In fact, it is not uncommon to have digital signals sent down longer and longer cable runs to feed video screens for concerts or monitors for on-air talent to use with telestrators. “Quite a bit of infrastructure has moved out to the real environment for these events,” he explained. “What I needed was a compact but reliable monitor in the field.”

Trio Video uses the PBM-070X to troubleshoot video lines. Roszczybiuk said the portable monitor, which can be powered by a V-mount battery, is extremely useful because it can display analog and digital video signals, as well as monitor embedded audio. “And the price was right, especially when you consider everything it does,” he added.

While he said the unit itself is very durable, Roszczybiuk keeps the PBM-070X in the optional hood and carrying case for use in sunny environments. Trio owns one PBM-070X and has ordered an additional two monitors for field use.

The PBM-070X seven-inch LCD widescreen monitor uses LED backlighting technology in a slim, elegant design. It supports all HD and SD signal formats and offers RGB 10-bit digital signal processing for fast response time, smooth video, and accurate color reproduction. The unit also includes several built-in features including waveform and vectorscope, closed caption decoding, audio metering and time code display, picture-and-picture and picture-in-picture modes, and speaker.
